Hyderabad Chapter - Indian Society of Soil Science

Origin

The idea to start a local Chapter of the Indian Society of Soil Science was considered in 1976 when it was decided by the Soil Scientists of Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University working at Hyderabad to host the 41st Annual Convention of the Society. Later on during 1981 with the initiative taken by Dr. K. V. Raman, the then Dean of P. G. Studies, A.P.A.U., details of soil scientists and members of the Indian Society of Soil Science working in different organizations located at Hyderabad were collected. When it was known that more than 30 scientists are members of the Indian Society of Soil Science, fulfilling the statutory obligation of ISSS, it was decided to institute the “Hyderabad chapter of Indian Society of Soil Science”. Under chairmanship of Dr. J.S.Kanwar, Director General, ICRISAT a meeting of the soil scientists was convened at Home Science College (APAU) Saifabad, Hyderabad on 25th July, 1981. It was attended by forty six soil scientists. The members present elected an Executive Committee consisting of 10 members. The constitution of the chapter was subsequently drafted by the Executive Committee incorporating the suggestions received from members and was approved and adopted the General Body.
